Dry season

Cooler, drier months with steady trade winds. Cane harvesting and crushing usually run from about May to December.

  • Plan cane harvest and haulage with your sector office and mill
  • Watch water supplies for stock on the drier western side
  • A good time for fencing, land preparation and machinery servicing

Farming in Fiji

Viti Levu, Vanua Levu and the islands.

Every part of Fiji farms its own way. Here is what grows where, in plain words.

How Fiji trades

Market day, the roadside stall and the mill.

  • Town markets. Dalo, yaqona, fruit and vegetables change hands at the municipal markets in towns like Suva, Lautoka and Nadi.
  • The roadside stall. Many families sell straight from the farm gate, by the road.
  • Cane to the mill. In the crushing season cane goes to the mill by cane train or lorry, planned with the grower's sector office.
  • And now online. The REALM Marketplace is an online stall for produce, stock, machinery and land, with a Listing ID buyers can search.
