- Ask for the full cost: the interest rate, every fee, and whether the rate is fixed or can change. Put the fees in the box above so you compare loans fairly.
- Match repayments to your income: cane, yaqona and dalo money often comes in at harvest, not every month. Ask your lender whether repayments can follow your harvest, and try the "once a year" option here.
- Plan for a bad season: cyclones, floods and drought happen. Leave room in your budget, and ask what happens if a repayment is late.
This is plain loan maths from your own numbers: interest is worked out on the amount still owing at each repayment, using the yearly rate divided by the repayments in a year.
